Female condoms to empower women-govt

Government says the on-going campaign to drum up support for the female condom is designed to give women a chance to make a choice on condom use.
Deputy director for Reproductive Unit in the Ministry of Health Fannie Kachale, told a gathering in Blantyre yesterday during the open day for the female condom initiative that women needed to know that the condom is there to empower them.
Kachale said in an interview that women never had a chance to protect themselves before, as they would go for what men suggested. She said this put most of them at risk of contracting sexual transmitted infections, HIV or unwanted pregnancies.
“The female condoms should be found in more outlets across the country. This will enable women to have an easy access.” she said.
